Scholarship in Memory of Karan Barker Recipients

Scholarships in Memory of Karan Barker are presented each year to students who are children or grandchildren of RAHB members or RAHB staff. All recipients are attending or will be attending university, college or trade school. These young people have demonstrated academic excellence and a high level of involvement in their school or the community – often both.

We are awarding four scholarships of $1,500 each, totaling $6,000 for this year. We began awarding these scholarships in 2001, and with this year’s awards, we have helped 82 students with $118,500 in total scholarship money.

Please see below some information on each of our recipients.

Our first recipient is SOPHIE HUGHES, daughter of Honor Hughes from Homelife Professionals Realty. She is a graduate of Ancaster High School and is currently enrolled at the University of Guelph, majoring in Theatre Studies.

Sophie has received several awards for drama, including the 2020 Theatre Ancaster Drama Award, the 2019 Ancaster High School Musical Theatre Award, and the 2017 Ancaster High School Drama Award. So, I believe it is safe to say that Sophie is in a very appropriate program at Guelph.

Our second recipient is TARA LEWYCKYJ, daughter of Ron Lewyckyj from Re/Max Escarpment Realty. She is a graduate of Bishop Tonnos Catholic Secondary School and is currently enrolled at Brock University in the Bachelor of Kinesiology program.

Among the many things discovered through her studies in the Kinesiology program, Tarahas learned about different concepts of the human body and understands how the body works during different day-to-day activities. She has also played, as well as coached, soccer and this has made her realize her passion for helping others through physical activity

Our third recipient is MARK MADDOX, son of Andrea Harley-Maddox from Re/Max Escarpment Realty. Mark is a graduate of Sir Allan MacNab Secondary School and is currently enrolled at Trent University completing a Bachelor of Science in Health – Biology.

Mark has many educational experiences working with wildlife, including: collecting terrestrial and wetland plants throughout Ontario; assisting a project investigating the breeding ecology of Canvasbacks in Southwestern Manitoba; live-trapping and handling Striped skunks, Red foxes, Raccoons, and Virginia opossums with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry; and working within the Aquatic Toxicology Unit for the Ontario Ministry of the Environment.

Our fourth and final recipient is JACK PHIBBS, son of Tanya Clark and grandson of Bruce MacDonald both from Royal LePage G. Bruce MacDonald. He is a graduate of Cayuga High School and is currently enrolled at the University of Waterloo in the Applied Health Sciences program.

Jack played in the Ontario Hockey League with the Flint FireBirds Hockey Club, and while there participated in many community events – such as helping serve food at a homeless shelter, engaging with children living at a local foster care facility, and meeting with fans of allages at local hospitals. This donation of his time and the impact he made in the greater-Flint community made him the mostdeserving player of Humanitarian of the Year for the 2018-19 season for the Flint Firebirds team.

Congratulations to all of our very deserving recipients.

Important Changes Coming to REALTOR.ca DDF® Data Feeds

For years, REALTOR.ca DDF® has made it easier for REALTORS® to showcase listings on their personal website through data feeds.

Due to the technical nature of setting up these data feeds, most REALTORS® enlist a technology provider’s help to set up and maintain the data feeds on their website. More than 500 technology providers currently work with REALTORS® across Canada and have access to data feeds, and supporting services, with no associated fees.

To ensure CREA continues to offer the best—and only—national data feeds to members, the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) is introducing a tiered pricing model for technology providers to access feeds and supporting services. The pricing model is structured to allow technology providers of all sizes to continue to provide their services to REALTORS® without interruption. This pricing model also better aligns with current market standards for data services and will allow CREA to provide REALTOR.ca DDF® data feeds for the long term. This new fee structure for technology providers will come into effect on April 1, 2021.

Please note: data feeds are still and always will be free for members. Charges will only be applied to technology providers, as per the new pricing model.

By introducing new charges to technology providers, CREA understands members may be impacted through increased service prices or technology providers choosing not to provide service anymore.

In the rare case of disruptions or rate increases, a complete list of technology providers who can ensure websites can continue receiving listings from REALTOR.ca DDF® has been provided.

RAHB COVID-19 Update for November 14, 2020 – Red Zones & Open Houses

As of Monday, November 16 at 12:01 a.m., Hamilton and Burlington (Halton) will be moving into the COVID-19 Red Zone (Control), as is outlined in the Province’s newly updated COVID-19 Response Framework.

As per the Framework, the Government of Ontario has officially prohibited the hosting of in-person open houses in these Red Zone areas. Real estate brokerages, brokers and salespeople must cease hosting and attending open houses in Hamilton and Burlington. Members can continue to submit virtual open houses through Matrix.

The (in-person) Open Houses feature in Matrix will be disabled for all RAHB areas as of 12:01 a.m. on Monday, November 16, as we are unable to limit by geographic regions at this time. RAHB will continue to work with Corelogic to separate out the various RAHB areas. Members can continue to submit virtual open houses for all RAHB areas through Matrix.

To view the Framework and level by region, please click the below button.

Ontario COVID-19 Response Framework

*Please Note – Although in-person open houses are still permitted in Haldimand (Yellow Zone) and Niagara (Orange Zone), RAHB and OREA strongly urge Members to use virtual means to show properties.

While, under normal circumstances, in-person open houses would be an effective tool for marketing a home, there are many options available to view properties which pose less health and safety risk to Members and clients. We will continue to advise Members against hosting in-person open houses until the pandemic is under better control in Ontario.

For further information, please visit the OREA website by clicking the button below.

CREA WEBForms® Legacy to be Discontinued as of December 17, 2020

The Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) will discontinue the Legacy version of WEBForms® as of December 17, 2020.

There are some members who use CREA WEBForms® Legacy to download or view older transactions and files. To ensure nothing is lost, CREA will communicate with members through e-mail, social media and online, encouraging them to download all the files from the Legacy version they need and migrate their kits to the new CREA WEBForms® as soon as possible.

To do so members will need to log in to CREA WEBForms®.

Members can learn how to migrate their transaction kits by watching our step by step how-to video: Migrate transactions from CREA WEBForms® Legacy. They can also register for a free CREA WEBForms® webinar with one of our experts.

The new CREA WEBForms® is a complete transaction management system offering REALTORS® the ability to do everything without leaving the platform, including sharing documents and templates with everyone in their office.

Training resources and support articles are available to all members on CREA’s Learning Hub.

CREA will send a reminder notice later this year to ensure members download or transfer all the information they need from the Legacy version before it’s discontinued.

If you have any questions, contact Member Support by phone at 1-888-237-7945 or email at [email protected].

Extended Member Support team hours for CREA WEBForms®:

Monday to Friday: 8 a.m. to midnight (EST)
Saturday and Sunday: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. (EST)
