Staff Profiles – Meet Rosanne and Sherry

Rosanne Horansky

Rosanne is RAHB’s Instructional Designer, Lead Trainer and Documentation Specialist.  She writes and instructs RAHB’s MLS® & IT courses and creates and updates computer course handouts.  Rosanne also maintains the notices on Message of the Day (MOD), creates and maintains MLXchange and Fusion resource links and updates the over-200 MLXchange/Fusion reports.  Rosanne also works on special projects in the IT area.

Rosanne joined RAHB as a receptionist back when listings were printed on perforated paper and stored in steel filing cabinets, about five executive officers ago.  After taking time to start her family, Rosanne returned to RAHB and took on the position of MLS® Supervisor and then moved into the IT department.

Sherry works in RAHB’s MLS® department where she receives MLS® calls and questions about MLS® Rules and Regulations and policies, processes interboard and access listings, checks listings/revisions and updates the street list and maps. Sherry also acts as back-up for the reception desk.

Sherry’s first stint with RAHB was right out of high school – she helped for the summer, entering sales, conditional sales, expired listings and other information into large journals.  After time spent at a different job, Sherry returned to RAHB and worked in the MLS® department for 13 years.  Sherry then moved on to reception where she spent seven years answering calls, taking care of mail and miscellaneous MLS® duties.  Two years ago Sherry moved into the MLS® department, where where she is today.

RECO Updates

Region 2 Election

RAHB Broker member Mike Cusano (RE/MAX Escarpment Realty Inc.) is running for the position of Regional Director for Region 2 of RECO.

Mike has been a member of RAHB for 21 years and has devoted much of his professional life to organized real estate.  He has served on many RAHB committees and task forces as well as the Board of Directors and was President in 2007.  He has been a member of committees and task forces at OREA and served as a member of the REALTORS Care Finance Committee.  He also served as a regional director on the OREA Board of Directors.

Members should have received online voting instructions, including their unique control number, from RECO the week of April 9.  Online voting will close at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2012 and results will be posted on RECO’s website on May 18.

For more information about the candidates or voting procedures, go to http://www.reco.on.ca/section-professional/tc-212/sc-395.html.

New RECO service

RECO recently launched their online transfers and terminations service.

As of April 30, 2012, brokers of record and branch managers can perform transfers and terminations for their employees on MyWeb with only a few clicks of a mouse. As long as all information entered is accurate and complete, immediate confirmation of the transfer or termination will be provided.

The enhancement of online services available on MyWeb is especially significant for registrants transferring brokerages. Under REBBA 2002, registrants cannot trade in real estate until their application for transfer is completed. By performing transfers online, registrants will be able to get back to trading immediately.

Additional information can be found in the Frequently Asked Questions document and Employee Transfer Worksheet, which can both be found on RECO’s website under the Registration section.

REALTORS Care Foundation

Two RAHB members recognized for their volunteer efforts!

Darlyne Mills (Jack Mills Real Estate Inc.) and Nancie Mleczko (Coldwell Banker Pinnacle Real Estate) recently received awards for their volunteer work in their communities.

Darlyne Mills was acclaimed as the Royal Bank Dundas Citizen of the Year for 2011 by the Dundas division of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, and received her award at the 2011 Dundas Community Awards on April 27.   Darlyne was nominated for her involvement in many local causes over many years- everything from sports teams, business groups, school and parish groups to service clubs and civic groups.

“Somebody put my name forward,” she said, “and I got the award.  It was very humbling.”  Darlyne wasn’t looking for accolades for her work in the community; she says she volunteers “because [she] wants to make a difference.”

Darlyne has been a volunteer at RAHB, sitting on the Government Relations Committee and the Charity Auction Task Force.  She is particularly proud of her work for the Christmas Tree of Hope, and said it is especially meaningful because the charity gives to children in the area.  In 2006, Darlyne was the first recipient of RAHB’s Outstanding Community Service Award.

Nancie Mleczko was named a Home Town Hero after her nomination by Neighbour to Neighbour (N2N). A Hometown Hero is a volunteer with a Hamilton social service organization who leads by example and goes above and beyond in the performance of their volunteer duties.

Nancie has been a volunteer in the Neighbour to Neighbour tutor program since 2006 and has also volunteered in the N2N Christmas Hamper program and bowl-a-thon.  In addition to her involvement with Neighbour to Neighbour, Nancie has also been involved on committees or boards with the Youth Justice Committee, YWCA, Big Sisters of Hamilton, the now-defunct Neuro-oncology Association, the City of Hamilton and Today’s Child.  She is a Certified Physical Activity Advisor and is active in four community theatres.

Nancy has also been very active at RAHB over the years, sitting on numerous committees and task forces.  She received her 25-year long service pin at the President’s Gala in January of this year

Volunteering is obviously important to Nancie.

“In this world of iPads, iPods and iTouches, it’s not really about “I”- it’s all about others,” she says.

Nancie received her award at the Volunteer Hamilton Community Builders Breakfast on April 20.

MLS® In Brief

What is Considered Contact Information?

There seems to be some confusion over what is considered personal contact information. The MLS® Policies state:

MISCELLANEOUS

5.  No personal contact information relating to the REALTOR® may appear in the REALTOR® remarks section of a listing. If the REALTORS® personal contact information is included, MLS® staff is to remove it and a $50 fine levied to the Brokerage.

Where the seller directs the listing REALTOR® in writing to do so, the seller’s contact information may appear in the REALTOR® only remarks (non-public) section of the listing on the Association’s MLS® system.

6.  No personal contact information relating to the REALTOR® with the exception of a direction to visit the REALTOR®’s website to obtain more information may appear in the internet ad copy/public remarks. If the REALTORS® personal contact information or specific website address, with the exception of a direction to the REALTOR’S® website, is included, MLS® staff will remove it and a $50 fine be levied to the Brokerage.

Members who place any of the following information in the REALTOR® remarks or Public Remarks (Internet Ad Copy) will be fined $50 for each offence:

  • Member’s first name
  • Member’s last name
  • Member’s full name
  • Member’s office name
  • Member’s phone number
  • Member’s cell number
  • Any toll free/office numbers which direct the public to the  member or member’s Brokerage
  • Member’s email address
  • Any links to the Member’s personal or office website

Members with questions about this MLS® Policy should contact Pam at 905.529.8101 x281.

REMINDER Conditional Sales

You are reminded it is not mandatory for Niagara members to report conditional sales.  Please keep this in mind when you are trying to book an appointment for showing or submitting an offer for any listings beginning with an (N).

New Clauses for Wind Turbines

Members who work in areas where wind turbines are present should be aware that OREA has published two clauses that deal specifically with wind turbines.  The clauses are found in WEBForms™ and are titled GREEN 04 – Renewable Energy Projects and GREEN 06 – Wind Turbines – Warranty.
