Did you know the winner of the RAHB Outstanding Community Service Award gets to name a charity to receive a $1,000 donation from RAHB?
Jim Duschl (RE/MAX Real Estate Centre Inc.) was the recipient of the 2017 Outstanding Community Service Award and he asked that the $1,000 donation go to the Waterdown District Lions Club. RAHB recently received a letter from the Club, telling us what the donation meant to them. Here’s what the letter said:
The Waterdown District Lions Club was pleased to find out that the REALTORS® Association of Hamilton-Burlington recognizes members who serve the community not just professionally, but through volunteering.
Finding out that Jim Duschl was the recipient this year was definitely a shared happy moment for his friends at the Lions club. Further to this, we then found out that Jim has chosen our service club as the recipient of your donation of $1,000 — we are honoured.
The Waterdown District Lions would like to thank the Association, Directors and members for this generous donation. The donation will continue Jim’s volunteer service, as we use it to support programs throughout the Waterdown and District communities we serve.
We also commend Jim for his work in our club and other programs in which he is active. Jim is a highly valued member, a recognized leader in the Lions movement, and we look to him for community guidance throughout the year.
Thank you again for this donation and for recognition of our fellow Lion, Jim Duschl.
Congratulations to Susanne Lemaich L (RE/MAX Escarpment Real Estate Inc.) on her nomination for a YWCA Women of Distinction award!

She is a six-time Canadian and two-time World Women’s Snooker Champion, 2007-12 Canadian Billiards and Snooker Association president, founder of the Women’s Snooker Association and she served as an international discipline committee member. Suzanne founded Breakfast with Santa (jointly operated with Good Shepherd), volunteered with elderly care and heads up a local snooker league.
Suzanne has been a RAHB member since 2008 and is an Accredited Senior Agent (SRA). Suzanne has volunteered her time at RAHB as well as in the community – she has served on the Government Relations, Arbitration, Professional Standards and Member Area Representation committees.

RAHB’s donation to St. Peter’s Long-Term Residence was able to equip the laundry rooms on every floor with new accessible machines!
“As you can see in this picture, the front-end loading machines are more accessible now to residents in wheelchairs who want to be independent and do their own laundry. The new machines are energy-efficient and use less water too”, says Kathryn Hazlewood of St. Peter’s Residence. “On behalf of St. Peter’s Residence, thank you for funding this project and contributing to more residents being independent.”
Take a look at the photo below to see one of St. Peter’s residents in action. To learn other ways the Association gives back to the community, visit rahb.ca/givingback.
RAHB’s annual major fundraising event, REALTORS® 4 Kids, was another huge success!
Four hundred fifty members and supporters came out on Thursday, November 16 to generously support the CHML/Y108/Fresh Radio 95.3 Children’s Fund. It was an evening of bidding on fantastic live auction packages and great items in the silent auction, playing games and taking part in raffles, and socializing.
How generous were our members? The auction raised over $73,000 for The Children’s Fund! And we’re still counting – watch for the final number in a future News & Alerts on RAHB Matrix.
Thanks to all members who supported this year’s REALTORS® 4 Kids Charity Auction!
