The RAHB-HDAA Joint Task Force on rental housing presented their “solution” to illegal rental units and student housing issues to the Hamilton Planning Committee on Tuesday, June 18.

The presentation supported a submission to the Committee for a “Sustainable Safe Housing Compliance Program”.  The program called for minor changes to Section 19 of the Hamilton Zoning Bylaw – changes which would make it easier for more accessory units in Hamilton to be in compliance with the Bylaw.  The submission also suggested a number of city and community initiatives to address student housing issues. While the report seemed to be well-received, the Planning Committee has requested City staff to report back withoptions and alternatives related to the licensing of rental housing” in September.

The HDAA has planned an information and strategy session to discuss the next steps for moving forward on alternative to rental licensing:
