Revitalization and Redevelopment in Hamilton-Burlington-Halton:  The 2013 Commercial Summit

Wednesday, May 8 was the date of the 12th Annual Commercial Summit, held at Burlington’s Royal Botanical Gardens.  2013 RCC Chair Chris Allen welcomed the near 150 delegates, exhibitors, and speakers, and turned the day’s proceedings over to moderator Professor Marvin Ryder from the DeGroot School of Business at McMaster University.

The full morning of education and updates began with a Canadian Commercial Council (CCC) update presented by RCC member Phil Nanavati, current chair-elect of the CCC.  Phil provided information about the activities on the national front and the commercial services available.  Next, a panel of the region’s economic development representatives presented updates on local opportunities, incentives and latest growth.  Hamilton, Burlington and Halton Region were represented by speakers Glen Norton, Kyle Benham and John Davidson, respectively.

Following the networking break that showcased the Summit’s 13 sponsors and exhibitors, Richard Koroscil provided an update on the latest MetroLinx “the Big Move” developments.  The final speaker was McMaster Innovation Park’s President and CEO, Zachary Douglas, who spoke of MIP’s latest highlights and current status.

“The Summit promoted what RAHB’s Regional Commercial Council does best,” noted Chairman Chris Allen, “with prime networking opportunities; topical, relevant education; and fostering relationships with appropriate professional and governmental organizations.”
