On October 3, RAHB received an e-mail from CREA, as did their other members, informing us that CREA’s Board of Directors recently decided to allow the future posting of sold data on REALTOR.ca. This announcement came as a surprise to us since we were not consulted in this matter.
We are seeking clarification from CREA about their plans, and will share those with you as soon as they become available. We will also be seeking input from you, our members, before RAHB’s Board of Directors makes any decision on how to proceed.

Releasing sale data will directly and negatively compromise the relationship between the Seller and the Realtor.
This will also negatively affect all Realtors and especially Appraiser members of our board, sale information is our information and it is what we use to give the public a professional value. Give it away free and all Realtors will suffer financial loss.
So very disappointed to hear that CREA is suggesting to make sold data available to the general public. My thoughts are that information relating to Real Estate is generated and compiled by Real Estate Professionals through years of diligent work, and should be proprietary to the field.
The information contained within the database is instrumental in providing a solid foundation from which realtors can effectively do their job. It aids in providing data to generate meaningful property evaluations, and offer reasonable expectations to Sellers of potential sold prices. As members we pay into a Board which offers us access to this privileged data. It was shocking that Mere Postings were introduced years back which only served to compromise the integrity of the data within our database, and now to offer Sold prices to the public is incredibly short sighted and proves that CREA is not serving the best interest of their members, but instead is short selling them.
Once sold prices are made public, there is absolutely no need to belong to a board. All information can be located through public access, which is FREE. It would appear that CREA is working to appease the public, instead of protecting their members. I can’t imagine any board requesting that this information be shared as was suggested in CREA’s communication. Honestly, so disappointing!
